Review of Shutter (2004) by Sashaaa S — 28 Aug 2008
Directed by Banjong Pisanthanakun & Parkpoom Wongpoom.
These two talented directors are the reason for me to like them so much & keep anticipating more & more of their movies. Shutter, is certainly the best horror film ever in 2004.
The story is focused on strange images or lightings that appeared in developed pictures. Those mysterious images, are they due to bad exposures? A spoilt camera? No. There is a reason why it is seen on developed pictures. Something unexplainable, & people often find hard to believe.
In Shutter, the early part of the movie showed that Tun(photographer) & Jane, his girlfriend, got into an accident. Jane apparently hit a mysterious girl who was crossing the road. Tun does not let Jane help the girl & asked her to drive away immediately. Jane was totally affected by that incident & she kept worrying about the girl. However, Tun tried to console her & forget about the whole incident.
When they came by to the place where the accident took place, Tun asked the police officer what happened there. The officer told them that someone crashed into the board, probably drunk & nobody was injured. There was clearly as the officer said, no accidents that happened that night. So who did Jane hit?
When Tun develops his latest pictures, he found some mysterious shadows. Tun investigates & found out that the victim was his former shy & weird girlfriend Natre, who studied with him in college. Later onwards, Jane discovered deep & hidden secrets abt Tun's relationship with Natre, along with, unexpectedly Tun's circle of friends.
This movie will get 5 out of 5 from me.
