Review of Shutter (2004) by Terri H — 18 Dec 2008
Your past will come back to haunt you!!
It's always refreshing when you watch a movie that you don't expect anything from and it turns out to be everything you could ask for. This was the case with Shutter.
The movie was creepy without the necessity of gore, it detailed relationships without being overly gratuitous, it offered suspense without the need for too much incidental music, provided mystery without becoming confusing, it was tear-jerking without the schmaltz, gave thrills with just the right amount of timing and twists which were surprising yet fell comfortably into the plot. Even the comedic moments were perfectly timed and excellent relief from a build-up of suspense.
It is also worth noting that the actors in this movie were superb! It is refreshing to watch a movie which ticks so many boxes.
Shame about the remake.
