Review of Shrooms (2007) by Bobby W — 18 Oct 2008
What an absolutely cocking awful film. I watch a lot of crummy horror films, but this has nothing to redeem it. Unlikeable characters, an insultingly predictable and unoriginal plot (with an "at this stage of the proceedings, I honestly couldn't fucking care less" plot twist no less), and some desperately uninspired "spooky" visuals combine to make this a long and unrewarding watch - in spite of the fact that the film itself runs for only 78 minutes without credits.
There's nothing here for anyone remotely familiar with horror cinema, and hardcore fans in particular will probably be disappointed with the lack of gore. There are plenty of better movies in the lost-in-the-wilderness subgenre (both Wrong Turn movies, Severance and The Descent spring to mind), so this is best ignored. Also to be ignored are the glowing reviews I found on the DVD sleeve. There's simply nothing to enjoy in this film. Unless you're a fucking idiot, obviously...
