Review of Shrek the Third (2007) by Doron S — 27 Aug 2012
Although, since the original, matters have vastly decreased in the Shrek franchise, Shrek the Third still offers enough charm and humour to build up an entertaining sequel.
After the death of his beloved Godmother (real mother), Prince Charming (Rupert Everett) plots to take over the kingdom of Far Far Away with brutal force. Meanwhile, Shrek (Mike Myers) is set to become the new King of Far Far Away after a serious conversation with Father-in-Law Harold (John Cleese) but instead searches for the alternative selection, Artie (Justin Timberlake), a bullied high school student who appears to have very little independence. With him on his valiant quest are Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) while on team evil with Charming are Captain Hook (Ian McShane) and numerous other villainous fairy tale cliched characters.
If I'm being honest this was just as hilarious as Shrek one and two; the laughs were just as frequent, if not more, and they were quite varied. The adventure was a little bland and lacked the ideas crafted into the first two and there wasn't a whole host of new faces to get excited about. Nevertheless, this is a solid third installment into a very impressive animation franchise - more than solid.
