Review of Shrek the Third (2007) by Matthew R — 05 Jan 2013
A good outing but nothing like as groundbreaking as the first. This was on par with the second, but ultimately, the franchise is running out of steam as well as ideas, with this focusing on the contrivance of King Arthur.
It seemed somewhat out of place, but the gag rate was acceptable with several moments of hilarity, particularly involving the Gingerbread Man's flashback.
Some inspired moments too, such as the Disney Snow White bird song but there were too many moments and not enough plot cohesion.
Shrek was a work of genius, reinvigorating the fairytale genre, but it's sequels have failed to live up to it's benchmark. But that's not to say that 2 and 3 aren't good and defiantly worth a watch... And a belly laugh!
