Following the fantastic sequel, Shrek the Third simply collapses under its own weight. The jokes move into the territory of cliche, the story doesn't have emotional heart that the first two conveyed so well, and the references to fairy tales aren't as fresh as they used to be.
Shrek the Third doesn't escape the curse of the "third movie".
