Review of Shrek Forever After (2010) by Keshav P — 17 Jul 2015
Was it better than its predecessor? Yes. Does it come close to matching the perfection of the first two movies? Hell no. Although this film does contain the urgency, something I criticized the last film for lacking, the story just doesn't make sense.
In this one Shrek has a family but he's longing for the days where he was all by himself and everyone was scared of him. What??? You mean, you want to go back to the first movie where you were a miserable ogre without any purpose?? That sort of motivation completely negates the first two movies where you tried to get Fiona.
What ends up happening is that he makes a deal with Rumpelstiltskin and all hell breaks loose. The upsetting thing about this film is the stupidity of the main character. The writers completely destroyed Shrek.
He finally ended up with Fiona and what we're going to have him do is wish she was never around??? Mind boggling. The supporting characters are, once again underused, as Donkey and Puss in Boots barely impact the film.
Through all of this, you still find yourself rooting for Shrek and that's where this film actually hits a positive note. The adventure was fun, Rumpelstiltskin was a good villain and the visuals were great.
Just don't expect it to be anything like the first two films.
