Review of Shrek Forever After (2010) by Beaty W — 08 Dec 2011
An excellent conclusion to the Shrek saga, and mercifully closed before it became stale. The one thing that I took away from this movie is how easy it is to get bored with the good and regular life that you may have, and keep craving for excitement of a life that is not routine.
As in this movie, Shrek takes happiness for granted, and then realises what he had only after he had lost it. This handles very mature themes of falling in love, being in love and then having false assurance that no matter what, the relationship will survive it, even increasingly frequent neglect of the loved one.
But, alas, such is not to be, as Shrek realises in his vain pursuit of the way life used to be, and then has to fight to get that life back. This after all, is a fairy tale, with an ending consistent with the expectation of the viewer, but fleetingly the viewer should realise that life does not always have happy endings, and s/he would take care to hold on to the near and dear ones, savoring every moment of togetherness, and never taking it for granted.
