Review of Shrek (2001) by David M — 02 Jan 2016
Shrek is original, modern, upbeat & most of all a shit load of fun. The one downer I'd say is that the humour is extremely adult themed, and there's so much of it I doubt many children could fully appreciate it the way adults did.
This hit was the big break DreamWorks was waiting for & finally put the studios on the map by showing they could produce praiseworthy 'Toy Story'-like animation films. Not only did this film make their competitors shake in their boots, it outright mocks them.
I was brought up on Disney films & love 'em to bits but even I had a genuine fun time laughing along at the tongue-in-cheek towards Disney. Also I just wanna say that Princess Fiona was born a human, so someone please explain to me how her being cursed as an Ogre & staying that way is a happily ever after ending? Her true form is HUMAN!! Basically tells little girls they need to change in order to stay with their true love.
