Review of Shrek (2001) by Retromagfan . — 22 Dec 2014
First of what was Dreamwork's most successful movie series ever.
In the first of the series we are introduced to Shrek who finds himself surrounded by fairy tale characters. They've been banned from Fairy Tale Land thanks to Lord Farquaad however Shrek just wants his swamp back but ends up having to save Princess Fiona from a dragon with only a talking donkey to keep him company.
And boy what a story it is because this was a fantastic film it was. It's also incredibly funny too riffing on fairy tale stories and even Disney films too.
The cast are great, Mike Myers does a great Scottish accent for Shrek, Eddie Murphy is very funny as Donkey, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow are also great too.
Animation is top notch too boasting some cracking CG action and top quality CG laughs too.
All in all Shrek is a very funny film, easily one of the best films of 2001 and one of my all time favourite films that started off a major series.
