Review of Shrek 2 (2004) by Joseph B — 21 Apr 2013
I was watching Shrek 2 the other night. Shrek 2 is the sequel to Shrek; this amazing story begins with Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz) on their honeymoon. Shrek 2 is a wonderful movie. It has such an incredible plot and such a beautiful story that is shared with the audience.
In this sequel we are introduced to a few new characters, they are the king (John Cleese) and queen (Julie Andrews) of the kingdom of Far Far Away (Fiona's parents), Prince Charming (Rupert Everett), the Fairy Godmother (Jennifer Saunders), the Muffin Man (Conrad Vernon), and Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas). We are re-introduced to Shrek (Mike Myers), Fiona (Cameron Diaz), Donkey (Eddie Murphy), and the gang, which includes the Gingerbread Man (Conrad Vernon), Pinocchio (Cody Cameron), the Wolf (Aron Warner), the Three Blind Mice (Christopher Knights), and the Three Pigs (Cody Cameron), and Dragon (and hers and Donkey's kids).
The fact that they made a second Shrek is a treat. Shrek 2 is not as adventure based as its prequel, but still has adventure and some sort of attraction to it. When I say attraction I mean, the story draws you in, and in Shrek 2's case it draws you in more than the prequel.
Shrek 2 is obviously an animated movie involving many different fairy tales to make the story more relatable, and as with being an animated movie/fairy tale, it goes with a similar story. And by that I mean it has its ups and downs, back and forth.
This is a great family movie, it does not matter how old you are, and I believe any age will find it entertaining and funny. I am almost 18 years old and still enjoy this movie. I also enjoyed the many, many different movie/story quotes and references. Although many children will not get these references until they are older, they will still enjoy the movie. Some teens and adults may not get these references the first time around, I know I didn't. It was only now that I noticed all of these great references. I also highly enjoyed the great music that they played throughout the movie.
All in all I highly recommend watching this movie. If you do have a family movie night coming any night soon, grab this movie, grab the family, and kick back and relax. If you do not have a family movie night, it is never too late to start, grab the whole family, some popcorn, and pop the movie in.
