Review of Showtime (2002) by Nick M — 14 Jun 2007
Sorry for my inconsistencies lately but I will go back to old style of journal entries. .
Today I saw 'Showtime' (Eddie Murphy, Robert De Niro) on cable. I'll start with the artistic aspects of the film. De Niro played his role very well as the laid back, short tempered cop as did Murphy as the more enthusiastic, playing cop role in the film. The two had mildly good chemistry together but it was only when they were arguing that this chemistry came out, other than that the two were dull together.
The script was ok. The idea of the film was good and some of the dialogue was great but in the end it was mediocre in the sense that nothing was really new and that it wasn't really special in that it doesn't turn heads..
Now for the technical side of things. The score was so bad that I cant even remember what it was anymore and I watched the film only 5 hours ago. Cinematography was nothing special, very average...not bad but not good.
Overall the film was ok, it had it's funny bits and they were extremely funny... 'You've made my apartment look like I'm a gay porn star', LOL. And there were some very bad spots, particulary when the villian was on screen because he was terribly cast and was a bad actor which screwed up the whole situation having De Niro and Murphy performing well and the villian a jackass! Anyway my final verdict is :fresh: , mainly because of De Niro's good performance and the very, if not that often, funny spots it had.
