Review of Showgirls (1995) by Michael M — 01 Sep 2008
Not as bad as it might have been. Insofar as it was sort of bad, but gave the impression that that was deliberate. Lots of naked women, obviously, kind of simplistic in many ways, but engaging for all that.
If a bleak, nihilistic message is what it's about, then it somewhat succeeds, but perhaps lazily and from a somewhat ambiguous standpoint, given the inconsistencies and back-story cop-outs. Plenty of stereotypes.
Good production values.
