Review of Showgirls (1995) by Matheus C — 11 Aug 2015
Thought movies like this were still made with someone's money they gave out HOLY full breasted crap! Who would have willingly to have this dumpster fire made. Directed by the man behind the original Robocop, Total Recall, and Starship Troopers no less Paul Verhoven.
our story follows Nomi (portrayed with some "special skill" by Elizabeth Berkeley in her first and last major film role after Saved by the Bell shut its school doors forever. Nomi fresh into Vegas in hopes of starting a new life while constantly getting exploited, undermined, and lied to on her way to the top of the burlesque entertainment ladder.
With co-performances from Kyle McLaughlin, Gina Gershon, and Robert Davi to shortlist everyone. Berkeley chews up the scenery do damn much its next to impossible to take her seriously, especially her "dancing" skills and her sex scene in a pool where she convulses and flops around like an epileptic fish.
Upon release Showgirls such poor reviews that Paul Verhoven issued an apology for it being ( this being funny since he declared before release that this movie was destined to be the next Citizen Kane).
On the other hand though Showgirls has developed a major cult following selling so many copies its in the top 20 highest video sales even to this day. I would suggest everyone view this film and see what resulted from this super guilty pleasure.
