Review of Shotgun Stories (2007) by Darryl J — 06 Oct 2008
When I was watching this,I thought of David Gordon Green. It has the secluded southern feel to it with characters that always ring true to their environments and lifestyle that never seem condescending.
After the movie, I found out the DGG was the producer. The story is familiar ,of course, but it's all in the way it's handled. It's a subtle movie that steers away from the violence and bloodshed that some movies rejoice in and instead focuses on how all of it affects this small family of brothers who happen to be names,Son,Boy, and Kid.
Jeff Nichols' direction was solid and the acting was great especially by standout, Michael Shannon. The ending was so much more satisfying than the one I was envisioning for it.
