Review of Shotgun Stories (2007) by Shawn M — 13 Jun 2009
Gorgeous, downbeat, muted almost-Western. Dusty blood feuds lurching beyond control with painful inevitability but surprising trajectory. Michael Shannon speaks little yet his performance is all the more remarkable for it.
Get past the fact that the central characters are called "Son", "Boy" and "Kid" and you'll find a script beautifully subtle in its allegory. This one snuck up on me and sunk its Arkansas claws in deep.
