Review of Shot Caller (2017) by Jonathan F — 22 Dec 2017
This Isnt A Terribly Original Movie What It Is However Is A Well Made And Engrossing character study of one man's journey from first time offender to hardened gangster.
Well acted with a great cast across the board this is the story of Jacob a businessman convicted of manslaughter and a DUI and his journey to becoming Money A Hardened Gang Leader In The Aryan Brotherhood.
Starting With His Release From Prison After 10 Years The Story Is Told In A Non Linear Fashion Through The use Of Flashbacks With The A Plot Being His Release From The Prison And The B Plot The Flashbacks Detailing How He Got There And His Life Inside.
This Is Very Much A Story Told In Greys While The Story Is Very Much the Familiar One Of A Man Trapped In Circumstances Beyond His Control Ala Shawshank jacob Is Definitely Shown To Make Choices Along The Way That Worsen His Situation indeed indeed this is very much the story of a anti heroes if not a outright villian.
Don't watch it your looking for a feel good flick but if your looking for a well made ,well acted prison film with a mesmerising central performance this is one to check out.
