Review of Shortbus (2006) by Michele W — 18 Dec 2010
Usually I would find myself uncomfotable watching a film with a sex scene in it, which on my first watch really was the case. I was almost on the verge of turning it off because of the confrontation of so much frontal Male and Female Nudity and seemingly pointless sex scenes, But my love for Hedwig and John Cameron Mitchell made me continue this movie right to the end.
Once I got over how confronting the movie was I found that I could appreciate everything I had failed to see on my first watch. After I had gotten over my childish, prudish dislike for the sex scenes and nudity in the movie (which is pretty much 80% of the movie) I found myself really enjoying the witty humour and the delightful story that was Shortbus, infact, the sex mearly became something I hardly even noticed on my second time around.
It was clever, it was interesting, it made me laugh, it made me cringe, and I found myself falling in love with every character more so then I usually would have in any other movie... maybe because the film gave me a window into the characters personal, private, secret lives.
I adored every second of Shortbus and would defiinatly reccomend it to anyone who enjoyed Hedwig and the Angry Inch and watch it twice.
