Review of Shortbus (2006) by Katja L — 11 Aug 2008
An ambitious project, but with some shockingly naive ideas, shrill characters and an overwhelming sense of contrived pretension. Sook-Yin Lee, Paul Dawson and the heartbreaking Alan Mandell save the film from going off the rails into a murky soup of well-intentioned, but ultimately undeveloped, ensemble philosophy-lite.
"It's like the 60's, only with less hope." Indeed.
