Review of Shortbus (2006) by Neil O — 21 Aug 2008
I really enjoyed this movie. Didn't know what to expect and was surprised to find it a refreshing and invigorating experience. According to director John cameron Mitchell, the film attempts to "employ sex in new cinematic ways", and it certainly is one of the most explicit mainstream films.
However in no way is this pornography and the sex in this film and is often purposefully "de-eroticized" to remove the cloud of arousal to reveal emotions and ideas that might have been obscured by it.
This movie is an uncensored look at the truth about love and sex. It is brutally honest, thought provoking, intense at times, and funny at others. These are characters that we can relate to, because they are real.
Reccomended.
