Review of Shortbus (2006) by Tony D — 04 Sep 2008
I was immediately struck with the film, and being a giant Hedwig fan, that is unsurprising. The characters had immediate depth and spurred on interest in their respective plight. Yet, displaying their issues right off the bat left a high bar at which film sort of plateaued, and I found myself losing touch and interest in the characters as the same facets were touched on for the entire movie.
The film is inventive, and shoves things in your face, not necessarily for a shock or pornographic reason, but it definitely pushes the envelope and investigates lives in a real way. To see something different, pick it up, but don't expect too much.
If you want to see Mitchell's best, pick up Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
