Review of Shortbus (2006) by Bryan C — 11 Dec 2008
Ample amounts of real sex almost make up for the persistent angst these beautiful, self-obsessed characters seem content to wallow in. The solution to their problems? More sex. If only there were more humor it could be a real treat.
While Hedwig found a way to make a drag queen appealing to mainstream audiences (mainly through humor!), Shortbus won't find many fans outside the LGBT community. Hedwig was a true outsider stuck in middle-America, but the Shortbus characters exist in their own safe, understanding, sex-focused world, and it's made for people that live in that world.
