Review of Shortbus (2006) by Marli S — 13 Jun 2009

I saw this when it first came out and had to watch it again recently to remind myself as to why I thought I liked it so much. It was the dialogue. The acting is not bad at all; in fact, it was a lot like having actual conversations with your friends.

I was suppose to go see this in 1996 with a friend, and I'm glad he canceled at the last minute, because he is a prude. The sex scenes were on the fence of pornography, which doesn't bother me at all.

But I would feel awkward if I watched it with a friend who might be uncomfortable with it. It's NOT a date movie, unless you were trying to make a big hint to your date! With that warning, I would highly recommend it to most people I know, including my uptight friend.

Oh, and by the way, I liked it MUCH better than Hedwig (which I have a few issues with).
