Review of Shortbus (2006) by Matt C — 13 Oct 2009
Past the hype over a movie using real sex there is a layered and compelling story about a group of interweaving New Yorkers. Granted I could see this film reaching a cult level, but it you could handle the gay sex, the group sex, and everything between, the sex is just a vehicle for defining how individuals run their lives and what choices we make.
The Felliniesque film is beautiful, moving, and yes, a certain campyness can be found. Not all the acting is flawless, and some of the characters only hit one note. It's a risk, and I jumped in, and I enjoyed it.
People will call this film a porn disguised as art; they don't know porn or art.
