Review of Short Term 12 (2013) by Adam K — 06 Jan 2014
An intense, yet heartfelt exploration of foster care life as told through the dynamic and deeply written characters that bring such a marvelous script to life. Brie Larson is enigmatic and involved as Grace and John Gallagher Jr.
is just the right match as Mason, her partner and work mate. It avoids cliches to delve audiences into its setting, allowing you to get to know the troubled souls that make up a majority of the residents.
It begins and ends just the right way, and in the 96 minutes that you spend with these people, you tend to forget that they are characters written on paper portrayed by professional actors. A definitive feature in the world of today's American indie cinema.
