Review of Short Term 12 (2013) by Peter P — 15 Apr 2014
Short Term 12 is hands down one of the best made movies of 2013. It is the story of a short term foster care facility for at risk teenagers, and deals mainly with one of the on floor supervisors named Grace.
At first Grace seems to have everything well in hand, she is incredible at her job, interesting as a person and very easy to root for. Grace's life starts to get turned upside down when a string of occurrences, including the intake of a young troubled teen girl that reminds her of herself, begins to unravel feelings that she has been ignoring for years.
The acting in Short Term 12 is completely incredible, every character from the small back ground roles to the main players are all completely believable, so much so that it sometimes feels like it could be a documentary.
Saying that, this film is not going to fit everyone's tastes, there are no explosions or chase scenes, well, actually there are a few chase scenes, but not like anything you would see in a Hollywood movie.
What Short Term 12 does have is heart, mounds and mounds of pure film lovers heart. So much so that when the last words were spoken and the credits rolled, all I could say to myself was, "WOW!" So do yourself a favor, give this small movie a chance, it may do you some good, or at least, make you appreciate what you have or had as a teenager.
