Review of Short Night of Glass Dolls (1971) by David S — 21 Nov 2007
Solid giallo but nothing exceptional. The plot has a very intriguing narrative hook (man is still alert but is awaiting his autopsy... In flashbacks, he tries to figure out how he got there), yet the film doesn't utilize it to the fullest, instead reverting back to generic mystery plotting.
The direction is serviceable, the cinematography nice, the score solid (Morricone never disappoints), and the end is memorable (though slightly nonsensical and confusing), the film would have been better if the plot was more involving.
However, the film is highly recommended for fans of giallo, while others should check some other gialli (anything by Argento) before coming here.
