Review of Short Cuts (1993) by Tore S — 22 Nov 2007
Good film, and it was nice to see some of Carver's stories come to life. But it was too much a movie for its own good: in my opinion, it could have done without a soundtrack, and the story with the lounge singer and cellist daughter seemed only to exist for purposes of integrating blues music into the film.
Great performances throughout, although some of the parts seemed to be making TOO literal some of Carver's characters. An epic watch (3 hours or so), it runs the gamut of emotions, and pays homage to Carver, though I wonder if Altman's directorial skills didn't get in the way of producing a Carver movie.
