Review of Short Cuts (1993) by Davide S — 03 Mar 2008
One of Altmans later masterworks after a fallow period during the 80s .
This sees the king of multi Linear story telling at his absolute best.
With a wonderful ensemble cast even the usually rubbish Andie Macdowell is good in this incredible film.
If you do decide to but this film then go for the Criterion Edtion which comes with a cracking doc on the making of the film ,Tim Robbins interview with the great man ,and Raymond Cavers original book.
Much better than the UK DVD which has just the film.
Its also a film to watch with Magnolia and Crash to see where those films got there ideas from.
That said while both films are good they will never top Altman at the top of His game ,which he is here.
