Review of Shopgirl (2005) by Lemon D — 04 Jun 2018
Very enjoyable! A drama heavier on rom than com. No shaky cam or speedy cutaways; the story blossoms slowly, but within lives of "quiet desperation". This film may remind you about that ONE relationship from the past - whether good, bad, or somewhere in between - that affected you so profoundly, it left an enduring impression with you.
..triggering memories that have become important contributors to who you are NOW. Everything from casting and dialogue to cinematography and editing was done effectively, ensuring my attention was not pulled away.
Martin's writing here seems to emerge from a personal place of wisdom that generally comes with life experience and self-awareness - not strictly age alone. Viewers aged 30+ are more likely to relate to some of the heavier emotional issues, but younger audiences should enjoy the protagonist and her journey with two different men, boys.
..males. ;).
