Realism is a razor's edge. Parker walks it for 90 minutes, but then lyricism comes in, oh so innocently. But that breaks the spell, and it's not too much longer before literariness, and then melodrama and the grand gesture whack us upside the head to remind us that we are watching something and not witnessing.
