Review of Sholay (1975) by Jonathan G — 29 Dec 2010
While it is clumsy, silly and funny in unintended areas; sholay should be seen for its pure filmi-ness.for, this is bollywood for starters.
1. archetypal character sketches.
2. themes of revenge, justice and love.
3. songs (sung keeping in mind that they can be used on general occasions).
4. choreographed dance numbers.
5. an item number (yes! needs separate mention).
6. comedy (the ones at which my sister chuckled).
7. action sequences (as many as the runtime can hold).
8. death of a protagonist/ lived-happily-ever-after ending.
