Review of Shogun Assassin (1980) by Ben M — 06 Oct 2007
Blood. Swords. Blood. Blood. Swords. Prostitutes. Samurai. More Blood. Add a toddler in a pram and you have Shogun Assassin.
A samurai?s wife dies and he has to take care of his toddler son. After he quits his post as the Shogun?s executioner, he is hunted to be killed. He travels the countryside to keep his son safe. But samurai and ninja are on his heels.
Shogun Assassin is the Americanized edition of the six disc series of the Japanese films Lone Wolf and Cub. It has been editing from six discs down to two, the other is called Lightning Swords of Death.
If you like samurai movies with a lot of blood, check this one out, or the whole series. It is not as slow moving as most Japanese films. But it definitely has the Japanese feeling.
