Review of Shock Treatment (1981) by Mirabella 1 — 26 Feb 2010
SHOCK TREATMENT (1981).
Directed by Jim Sharman.
Written by Richard O'Brien & JimSharman.
Fantastical, visionary (in hindsight!), all-singing, all-dancing satirical observation on society, the media, consumerism & everything. Yet another truly unique & inspired creation from Richard O'Brien (the Terry Gilliam of the musical world).
I saw this countless times when it was released & it has definitely left its mark on my psyche (I am sure Mr O'Brien would be delighted to hear that!). It still rates as one of my favourite-ever-in-a-lifetime films....I watch it at least a couple of times a year to this day.
I actually still have the original "Trust me...I'm a doctor!" poster in my bathroom....(My god!!!....has it REALLY been up there for 19 years?!!!)....& a much-loved, played-to-death original vinyl LP that I remember saving my hard-earned pocket money for at the time.
This film & its marvellous, surreal, endearing characters will be a part of my life forever.
Enjoy your visit to The Home Of Happiness!
