Review of Shock Treatment (1973) by Curtis W — 02 Jul 2010
Rocky Horrors underrated sequel seems strangley prophetic these days concerning its subject matter. Brad and Janets hometown of "Denton (the home of happiness)" has been turned into a television station and with various places in the town becoming their programming. For example, the show Dentonvale; the mental help facility, and Denton Acres; the home of Janets family.
Basic Pro's and Con's of the film.
Pro's:
Its significant sense of artistic style, the music retains the same catchiness as the rocky horror songs if not more, references to rocky horror such as the American Gothic painting and how the actual audience in the movie participates in the shows (audience participation), and overall throughout the film is a B-Movie appeal that certainly is'nt innovative or groundbreaking, but by far it is as original as rocky horror, and you will still get caught up in this stylistic and visually impressive musical romp.
Con's:
At some parts, the plot gets somewhat confusing and hard to follow, the ending is'nt as satisfying as it should be, the musical numbers seem too consecutive at times,.
Overall: it's a definite see for any Rocky Horror fan, but it should NOT be treated as a sequel to Rocky Horror because if it is seen as a DIRECT sequel to the Rocky Horror, then u are gonna just feel sooo let down, sorry ladies, no Transexual Transylvanians for you this time.
