Review of Shock Corridor (1963) by Eduardo C — 09 Mar 2009
This was truly a griping film (too bad I was watching it on criterion, which for the millionth time did a shit transfer and made the price ridiculous.) This film had specific shots like photographs that you could stare at and understand, without words, the emotions behind everyone.
The naration was eeriy. I had sweaty palms at points in the story because the narration played up- the emotion so much. The use of color to play up the surrealism of flashbacks was jarring. Some critisize Fuller for his straight-forward story telling and unrealistic dialog, but I really didn't see a problem with either in this film.
The dialog felt organic to me. I'd recomend seeing this to anyone interested in where modern and post-modern cinema draws a lot of influence from.
