Review of Shine a Light (2008) by Freda W — 14 May 2008
A brilliantly filmed record of a fine concert. I saw the regular-sized, non-IMAX version but was still powerfully struck by the excellent cinematography and the artful use of the archive interview footage, which illustrates and amuses more than it intrudes on the flow of the show.
Some have been disappointed by the fact that not of all the Stones' vintage hits are here, but personally I thought that the eclectic, unpredictable set list made it more interesting. In one sense, at least, Mick Jagger is a good example to us all: his energy and enthusiasm in his seventh decade make the prospect of getting older seem less depressing.
The whole band really look to be having a great time, and the feeling is infectious. Bet it's better still in IMAX!
