Review of Shine a Light (2008) by Peter S — 11 Jun 2008
This may not be your typical Martin Scorsese film, but he has created one of the best concert films to come out in the last few years. Unlike his other concert classic "The Last Waltz", this is more of a musical experience and feels much less like a documentary than its predecessor.
There is some semi-fictional footage blended in with archival footage, but the pure energy and authenticity from the band members (and famous guests) gives this its edge: captured brilliantly by Scorsese with great sound and editing to complement the package.
A must see on the big-screen, even better if you can get it on IMAX. Can't say I've been much of a "Stones" fan (having missed that generation), but for a bunch of sixty-something year-olds, these guys still know how to rock.
Guess now's a good as time as any to jump on the bandwagon.
