Review of Shine a Light (2008) by Matt E — 31 Jul 2008
Martin Scorsese, one of the world's best film-makers, films one of the world's greatest bands, The Rolling Stones. How could this movie not be awesome? Being fairly knowledgeable in The Stones music library, I was pleseantly surprised that they didn't just play a greatest hits concert.
Instead, they go back and cut deep into their huge library for some fantastic, rare treats. The icing on this cake is a trio of great guest performances from Jack White, Buddy Guy and Christina Agulara.
Buddy Guy is the best, bringing a primal energy and fierce rhythm to the stage on "Champagne and Reefers." My only complaint was that they saved their three biggest songs right in a row for last.
I would've liked to have seen them sparsed out throughout the show more. Anyways, for a Stones fan, or a music fan, this movie is a must.
