Review of Shine a Light (2008) by George C — 15 Aug 2008
Scorsese did really well with this doc, and kind of appears humble in the first 10 minutes under the thumb of the notoriously controlling Mick Jagger. The clash of two titans, yes. The performance sequences show a band that clearly still loves what they do.
There's some unnecessary shmoozing with Bill & Hillary Clinton at the beginning, which cements the band's status as celebrities and legends but reminds you they've long since lost their mantle as the bad boys of rock.
And on a personal note of appreciation, Keith Richards is still the baddest ass in the land.
