Review of Shine a Light (2008) by Trent B — 03 Nov 2008
Those expecting an in-depth look into Stones like Scorsese's brilliant 'No Direction Home' on Bob Dylan will be disappointed. Those expecting a perfectly timed concert film such as Scorsese's The Last Waltz will also be disappointed. If you are looking for an exquisitely shot, belter of a concert that just happens to be helmed by Scorsese you're in for a treat.
The opening behind the scenes stuff is where, as a film, Shine a Light is at it's strongest and the inserts are also of interest though few and far between they are. The concert is, as I say, a great gig and looks superb with the Stones on top form but you just get the feeling if Mick were a little more accommodating this could've been more than it is. What it is though, is a bloody good gig.
