Review of Shine (1996) by Daniel P — 27 Aug 2007
The kid who plays David as a teenager , I think, does a better job than Geoffrey Rush's constant nervous stuttering as David the adult. Best is his cruel, demanding Holocaust survivor father who drives him to a nervous breakdown.
1996 was a great year for Oscar nominees (Fargo, Secrets and Lies, Jerry Maguire, The English Patient, Shine). Shine is easily the worst.
