Review of Shine (1996) by Andy T — 23 Sep 2007
Geoffrey Rush's portrayal and mannerisms of David Helfgott were really accurately observed, as I remember seeing David interviewed on Melvyn Bragg's 'South Bank Show.' When I saw the film alone in a cinema, I hated how some scenes made me cry really hard. David's madness disappeared whenever he was in a scene with only his father. There were moments of genius, catharsis and a love of life's continuance that made it a memorable movie.
I'm wondering if the film would still hold it's power if I watched it today.
