I know it sounds cheesy but what makes this movie so beautiful is its heart and inspiration. Watching David struggle through defeat, his dominating father, and his mental suffering and finally pulling through is one of most inspirational stories put on film.
You feel so happy you can't help but cry at the end. And what makes it all work is Scott Hick's great direction, the magnificent script, and the superb acting by Geoffrey Rush. He has what I think is truly one of the best performances of the 90s and one of my personal favorites.
