Going to have to watch this at least one more time to get a better handle on it, but first impression: "The West Wing"... with a giant monster and zero obnoxious virtue signalling assholes. Or to get really, really deep in nerdcore: "Patlabor 2: The Movie" with hints of "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and "Godzilla 1984.
