Review of Shin Godzilla (2016) by Ilja S — 12 Dec 2016
Godzilla Resurgence is the first movie in a long time that not only depicts the King of the Monsters as a force of nature, but also manages to make him extremely scary. This movie clearly channeled the original 1954 TOHO movie, by getting into the biology of the creature, the danger an animal might pose to human kind, and the ages old question of 'what manners are we allowed to use' in a nuclear age, especially in a country with such a bad history with nuclear weapons.
The movie is very intriguing, but still, some human characters are ony there for exposition, and many of them are pure stereotypes (which is weird to say, since this is a japanese movie). Those element might take you out of the movie, but still, the use of the original theme, practical effects and sound will thrill you and give you all the chills.
