Review of She's Out of My League (2010) by Bob J — 26 Dec 2012
For most of its first two acts, I thought it was a decent, slightly above-average romantic comedy. Jay Baruchel conveys the necessary earnestness for us to connect with Kirk, and his relationship with Molly (Alice Eve) is believable; at least as far as this type of films go.
Kirk's friends, on the other hand, feel staged and their interactions aren't as real. Still, I have to admit I chuckled several times, and LOL a few. Unfortunately, whatever they had going for in the first acts, the director and writers ditch in the last act, with one of the most predictable and clichéd plot devices ever: the couples reunion at the airport.
Most of this last act is executed so poorly that I was rolling out my eyes at all of it. I did have a good laugh at one particular moment after Kirk delivers an impassionate speech as he plans to get off the plane to meet Molly, but that's about it.
