Review of She's Beautiful When She's Angry (2014) by Amanda C — 16 Jul 2015
As important as suffrage, the civil rights movement or the World Wars, the feminist movement is something that should be taught much more than it actually is. That's what makes She's Beautiful When She's Angry such an important film.
Giving an overview of the feminist movement in the US, it is a film that should be required viewing for everyone. An impeccably crafted documentary, it never sugar coats or tries to pretend that feminism is something it isn't warts and all.
It acknowledges the amazing work that the feminist movement did and highlights what they achieved, but it also shows how much more work there is to be done. More importantly She's Beautiful When She's Angry reinforces the message that being complacent gets you nowhere.
Getting angry about the injustices that are part of your everyday world is not only important, it is necissary for change. One person can change the world because there is never just one person. The word feminist has taken a fair bit of heat lately, but She's Beautiful When She's Angry shows us why feminism is just as relevant as it was almost fifty years ago and not just for women.
