Review of Sherrybaby (2006) by Chosen 7 — 23 Dec 2008
I found this film a lot more depressing and harrowing than expected. Maggie Gyllenhaal is exceptional in the lead role as an ex-con trying to go straight for the sake of her young child. The desperation and hopelessness was portrayed with a gritty realism throughout the entire film, but I found it hard to empathise with any of the characters, as fortunately they were about as far removed from my own life as one could possible get.
Worth seeing but I don't feel I could recommend it as an enjoyable film watching experience.
