Review of Sherrybaby (2006) by Anna N — 17 Sep 2009
"And now your Sunday afternoon movie is" this is the phrase that comes to mind after watching Sherrybaby.
I have a lot of respect for Maggie Gyllenhaal I thought she was superb in the Secretary and generally a great method actor. however to quote Kyle Smith of the New York Post she can do little to improve a "movie bursting with nothingness".
There really isn't any point to the film, yes is chronicles a woman's trip from prison to a half way house and her attempt to integrate back into her family as well as gain access to her daughter but trust me this is a lot more interesting on paper than it appears on screen.
I hate movies that tell me I should be feeling something right now, don't get me wrong I believe great films can move you but I hate certain films that openly demand certain emotional responses from its audience directly rather than subtly through the plot achieving it.
Sherrybaby is so uninteresting one struggles to write a review of a substantial length as really one doesn't want to waste the time thinking about such a B Movie.
Verdict Watch if your really bored 1.5 stars.
